The Aloha Folk Story
chanelle kanani is a native hawaiian artist and dream weaver, sharing aloha through music, healing, art, and design. what began as a creative spark became a soulful journey — she transformed an old school bus into her aloha folk skoolie studio, a sacred, sustainable art space to dream with colors of the rainbow, woven through the fabrics of life. every creation that flows from kanani’s hands is a reflection of connection and intuitive abstract artistry. a gentle invitation to slow down, be present, and celebrate aloha in all its forms. inspired by her two great-grandmothers who dreamt up beautiful garments and handmade treasures, her travels around the world, and the simplicity of nature … kanani finds beauty in the blend of old and new, and in all of life’s imperfections.
“there’s something magical about visiting the aloha folk skoolie studio. it feels like a warm, gentle embrace of aloha. people are greeted with a hug as they hemo (take off) their slippers and walk up the steps. passing through a macramé wall hanging. you can hear the songs of native birds and a soft wind chime gently blowing in the wind. we usually end up talking story — like old-time ʻohana and friends. inside, you’ll find one-of-a-kind vintage aloha and upcycled fashion — aloha camo, flannel, and denim jackets, vintage muʻumuʻu and aloha shirts, and handmade pillows created from reclaimed textiles. i’ve always had a passion for anything vintage aloha with a bohemian flair,” kanani shares.
she curates every detail herself — from sourcing sustainable fabrics and vintage home goods to designing and sewing each piece. what began as selling her favorite handpicked finds online has blossomed into a mindful, creative studio. a shop on wheels filled with soul, nostalgia, and aloha. whether you’re exploring the aloha folk collection, listening to kanani’s music, or visiting the skoolie studio in person, you’ll find a living expression of slow living, intuitive creation and the spirit of aloha.
